Last year, on June 30th — Evelyn and I stepped through the doors of Grace-Lynnwood UMC and were greeted by your loving embrace. Can you believe it’s been one year already? This has been such a wonderful year of worship and fellowship with all of you, and we are so thankful for the relationship that we share together. So, what’s next?
By now, you have figured out that I love to teach about the Scriptures and provide a deeper meaning for anyone who is desiring to learn and grow deeper in their understanding of the Bible and what it’s all about. This, I believe, should be the central focus of sermons: To primarily “teach” and not “necessarily” preach” at people. Of course, there is a preaching element along the way, but my desire is that you leave each worship service enriched with insight while, perhaps. saying to yourself, “I never knew that.” So, what you can expect is more teaching, which equates to deeper understanding and spiritual growth.
Here are some verses that line up quite well with the above:
Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us reason together,” says the Lord
Colossians 1:10 “So that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.
Proverbs 13:20 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
Proverbs 2:6 “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
And lastly,
Ecclesiastes 7:12 “Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it.”
God bless all of you and may you continue increase in your understanding of all things ~Rev. Kendell Healy
